There are five city commissioners who serve alternating four-year terms, with elections held in June during even-numbered years. The city has 60 full-time employees including 12 full-time police officers. The Valley City Fire Department has 1 full-time employee and 38 volunteer firefighters. The Valley City Park Board has 5 directors also serving alternating four year terms.
